Smartphone technologies are evolving faster than one can keep pace with. While bigwigs like Apple and Samsung make headlines for equipping their devices with the latest features and hardware, Chinese contenders are also catching up, as it seems from the newest trends. Xiaomi recently took the veils off its flagship smartphone, namely the 14 Pro. The device is loaded with all the bells and whistles one can think of, including the mighty Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

However, it is not only the impressive imaging spec, boosted by a collaboration with Leica and the most powerful Qualcomm chip that make the Xiaomi 14 Pro a challenger to the flagships from rival brands. The device has also generated buzz for its unique and robust display protection technology. Most smartphone makers use some type of protective glass atop the screens of their devices, with the majority using Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Xiaomi, however, has used a robust and very durable protective glass called Dragon Crystal Glass.

The newly unveiled Xiaomi 14 Pro reportedly has a better and more durable protection layer atop its screen. Xiaomi says the Dragon Crystal Glass is made with components like sodium oxide, phosphorus pentoxide, zirconium oxide, lithium oxide etc that make it very durable and scratch and break-resistant. The company claims the Dragon Crystal Glass is superior to Apple Ceramic Shield Glass and Huawei Kunlun Glass 2 as well. It also leaves the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 far behind, as per test fidnings.

While the Dragon Crystal Glass wins the durability test it is also very transparent. It is up to 10 times more drop-resistant than competing protective glasses.
