Recently, WWE released a number of wrestlers from their roster, and some of the released names raised questions among the fans. One such name had been the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Sonya Deville who had been a part of the WWE roster for a decade and was one of the regulars on the weekly shows.

But even Sonya Deville could survive the recent budget cut of the promotion and questions have started to be raised on her release. WWE recently introduced a mid card division for women with two new championships for Smackdown and RAW each. Deville could have been an excellent fit for this newly introduced women’s mid card division.

Deville suffered a torn ACL injury in 2023 which sidelined her from action for nine long months. After her return to action, she started a faction with Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark named Pure Fusion Collective. But before she could much further with it, she had been released from the promotion. Recently, she discussed her release on her YouTube video. She said;

“I was signed at 21, and now I’m 31. We just parted ways a week ago. It’s crazy. I’m still processing it, so I don’t have all the answers yet. Ten of the coolest years of my life. I got to grow up in that world and a lot of my ideologies and mentalities were shaped by that company, which are cool because it gave me more of a work ethic than I had.

“Time management skills, traveling all over the world and seeing things with my friends. I had some of the best times ever. I’ve been to 50 countries, wrestled everywhere. It was so fun, but I’ve always known there were going to be different chapters of my life.”

“I’m very in the mentality of nothing happens to you, it happens for you. I don’t have an ounce of anger, regret. Even the sadness, the sadness is just missing the moments, but the sadness isn’t, ‘Oh my God, I want to be back there right this second.’ It truly isn’t. I’m so at peace with that is happening because I’m such a strong believer in the Universe.

“I know that everything is going to be okay and I know there are bigger things out there for me. What a great ten-year foundation laid. What a great first chapter of my adulthood. I’ve collected more knowledge, wisdom, life experiences, than I could have anywhere else. I’m excited.”

A large number of fans were not happy with Deville’s WWE release but after her first statement following her release was revealed where she said that she was in the middle of a negotiation on a contract extension, fans started asking questions about what was there to negotiate when she was not even a draw. Hopefully, she has a great future lying ahead of herself in WWE.
