Shelton Benjamin had been a WWE utility product who was developed in the Ohio Valley Wrestling which was one of the development and territories of WWE during that time. It was believed that he was a one of the most talented trainees of his time and everybody expected him to become a top star of WWE in the future.

In the Ohio Valley Wrestling OVW, Benjamin and Brock Lesnar used to work as a tag team. WWE's bigger project was Benjamin and nobody expected Brock Lesnar to become any kind of big deal in the future. Benjamin did receive a strong mid card push but he could never become a top star of WWE. He remained active in WWE until 2010 before getting released.

Shocking Claim: Shelton Benjamin Thinks Vince McMahon Betrayed Him Over Certain Storyline

He returned to WWE in 2017 and this time he was only treated as a jobber. The promotion received criticism over not giving him any stronger booking. In 2020 he became a part of a faction named The Hurt Business and it was finally looking like that he may get some better bookings. But after the faction got disbanded, he turned a jobber again. Recently, Benjamin spoke on the “Talk Is Jericho” podcast, where he explained why he felt betrayed by Vince McMahon after Hurt Business was cancelled;

Shelton Benjamin is a three times WWE Intercontinental Champion

“I felt a bit betrayed because I come here every week, I never complain, I risk my life just like everybody else. When other people wanted to stay home, you never had to question whether or not I’d come to work. So, for us to bear that burden — and mind you, obviously we’re not the only ones.

Shelton Benjamin is presently active in AEW

"We’re not the only people, but the fact that we were always willing and we were actually producing, for you to just immediately turn around and just kill it, what the fuck man? His comment to me was, ‘We’ve gone as far as we can with the Hurt Business.’”

Shelton Benjamin is presently active in AEW where he teamed up with Bobby Lashley and MVP again to Reform the Hurt Business but by a different name; the faction is now known as the Hurt Syndicate. AEW could not get Cedric Alexander to this faction who was the other member of it in WWE since Alexander is still under contract in WWE.
