Shawn Michaels and Triple H are real life best friends and their friendship was also portrayed on television on many occasions. One of their early portrayal together was during the Attitude Era when they formed D Generation X which was a faction and extremely famous among the fans.
It also had other members like The New Age Outlaws, X Pac, and Chyna. In 2006, Michaels and Hunter reunited to reform D Generation X. It was once again a huge success. DX was one of the biggest attractions of the Attitude Era and it was really fun to see what these guys were doing every week on television.

But it is also believed widely that DX left a bad impact on the youth during their time with their controversial gestures. Kids used to impersonate their moves and it was definitely not a good impact. Triple H recently spoke on the "Roommates Show" where he admitted how Shawn Michaels left a bad impact on youth;

"We were just talking about this yesterday. We're moving to Netflix on January 6 with [WWE] Monday Night Raw, so we were at this 'lunch and learn' they call it for Netflix yesterday in Los Angeles, and all this media there, and all this stuff, and probably like six different people from media, like high-level media people, came to me and were like, 'Man, I wanted to come over here and say 'suck it' to you so bad, and do the crotch chop.'"
Triple H and Shawn Michaels also worked as rivals from 2002 to 2004
"It's funny that you do stuff at the time when the Attitude Era hit, when the DX stuff took off, when [the crotch chop] hit, you look back at it now and it's crazy, and it's so special and all the stuff. But at the time, it was just like what you were doing, and we were just doing it. We were doing our thing."
Michaels and Hunter reformed DX in 2006 and this time they were not as controversial as their Attitude Era days, but they were always really fun to watch. They have reunited on various occasions. Now, both of them are retired from in ring action and they are both managing WWE.
