Every time the question is asked which famous WWE star could not become a Grand Slam Champion, the name that comes into everyone’s mind is John Cena. The Doctor of Thugonomics is a 16 times WWE World Champion which is more than anyone in the promotion, but the only title he could not win is the WWE Intercontinental Championship, which prevents him from being a Grand Slam Champion.
John Cena is not the only top star of WWE who is being prevented by the Intercontinental Championship from becoming a Grand Slam Champion. Former four times WWE World Champion Sheamus is also not a Grand Slam Champion for not winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Sheamus Has an Intercontinental Championship ‘Curse?’ The Celtic Warrior’s Shocking Explanation
The Irish professional wrestler has been immensely successful in WWE. He is not only a former World Champion, he won multiple Tag Team titles, United States title, Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, and even King of the Ring. The only title he could never win is the prestigious WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Sheamus is a four times WWE World Champion
There were times when The Celtic Warrior came really close of winning the title, but ultimately he failed. Recently, the WWE legend appeared on "Insight With Chris Van Vliet" where he discussed his failure to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. He explained where he got the ‘curse’ of this title from;
"It's the IC curse of The Celtic Warrior. It's the one thing I can't win," Said the former WWE World Champion. "The irony is that it's the first title I really became focused on because Macho Man was in a feud with [Ricky] Steamboat over it. So when I started watching, Macho Man was the first IC champion. So the one title that I was exposed to as a fan is the one I can't win, which has become this kind of crusade, but it's definitely an IC curse for me."
WWE Intercontinental Championship is the only men's title in WWE that Sheamus never won
Sheamus came really close of winning this title at the Clash at the Castle 2022 event where he challenged Gunther for the title. The duo orchestrated one of the best matches of the year 2022 at the mention event.

The latest challenge the Celtic Warrior threw for the title was at the Survivor Series 2024 event where he and Ludwig Kaiser challenged Bron Brekker for the title in a triple threat match but once again Sheamus failed. The fans can expect him to win the IC title in the future so that he can be counted as a Grand Slam Champion of WWE, which he definitely deserves.
