Seth Rollins was originally a CM Punk fan during the early days which he openly admits. It also helps boosting up their present storyline. The feud began even before Punk returned to WWE with Rollins openly criticized Punk. As soon as Punk made his return to WWE, a feud between the duo was expected.
WWE had a big plan of having a match between this iconic duo at WrestleMania XL for the World Heavyweight Championship. But Punk got injured at Royal Rumble and he had to miss WrestleMania XL. The feud could not be started until recently since both wrestlers suffered injuries throughout this time.

Finally, they could begin their feud at the end of 2024 and their first match was scheduled at the Netflix RAW Premiere. CM Punk was victorious in the first ever main event of the Netflix RAW Era. Recently, Rollins spoke on WWE's YouTube channel where he discussed the origin of his conflicts with CM Punk;

"I started as a CM Punk fan and I'm not ashamed of that," he said. "He was somebody that I thought I could root for. And at some point in the future, maybe there's a version of me that's a CM Punk fan again. ... [but] everything that he's done has indicated to me that in no way has he changed, that it's just this facade that he's putting on."

"I struggled for so many years after that betrayal," he said. "And I never got an apology. You could have even just said, 'Hey man, I need some time. I need some space.' I would have [understood], but he just never -– he never gave us that."

Rollins may have lost the first battle of this exciting series but this is definitely not going to be the end of this saga. We can expect Punk and Rollins to have one or a couple of more matches in the recent future which would determine the actual winner of this feud. But chances of a potential WrestleMania match at this moment are highly unlikely.
