WrestleMania 35 quite a forgotten event despite being the first ever WrestleMania to have a women’s match as the main event of the show. Despite it had an excellent match card with some amazing moments like the beginning of the Kofimania, this event is not much talked about.
One of the matches that is pretty much forgotten was the United States Championship match where the champion Samoa Joe totally squashed the challenger Rey Mysterio. It did not even take one complete minute for Samoa Joe to beat the former three times WWE World Champion. As soon as Joe locked the Coquina Clutch, Rey was done.
Revealed! Why Rey Mysterio was Squashed by Samoa Joe at WrestleMania 35
But why was a legend like Rey Mysterio treated in such a way and that was also at a stage like WrestleMania? A lot of questions were raised after this event and finally the answers are on the table. WWE referee Mike Chioda shared the insider while speaking on his Monday Mailbag podcast;
“The match went down from 15 to 12 or something, and then 12 to something like nine or eight. And when I got in the ring, and Rey Mysterio was just about on his entrance, they said you gotta go home. As soon as Rey and Joe gets in the ring, you gotta go home. You have two minutes.”

Chioda continued, “It was literally like a two or three, four minute match, man, and he just squashed Rey pretty much, and boom, and won. And I know Rey was stunned, shocked, because they didn’t take off anybody else’s match during the show basically, you know… These people went long and they didn’t b*tch at them, and all of a sudden they just pull the last second, you know, man.
“And I was like, ‘Are you f**king kidding me, Billy?’ He’s like, ‘you gotta go home.’ As soon as they go in, tell him to get to something, do something, go home. It was a title match too. I think it was a title match.”

Chioda added; “I mean, I know they’re going to still get a big paycheck and all that, but sometimes, you know, money ain’t there. It’s your pride.”
Vince McMahon during his dying days in WWE totally treated Rey Mysterio as a jobber. Rey had to job in several matches. He was even used as a jobber to elevate Veer Mahaan as a singles competitor. But thankfully, Triple H is treating the Hall of Famer with the respect that he pretty much deserves.
