Mustafa Ali's WWE career was quite unfortunate. He was poised for a lot of big things at a point, he was even planned to beat Daniel Bryan to become the WWE champion. But injuries kept him out of the storyline and we got a new and fresh story which is famous under the name KofiMania.
This is not the only time that WWE tried to push early as a big star. There are other examples to win WWE attempted to push him but things never worked in favour of him. There was even a time when the promotion wanted him to win Money in the Bank ladder match, which did not work for him either.

But WWE did not give up trying to push him. Ali recently revealed another insider while speaking with "Insight With Chris Van Vliet," he revealed that WWE wanted to push him as the NXT North American champion when he made his return to the NXT in 2023. But much like most of his big plans in WWE, this was also canceled. Here is what he said;
Mustafa Ali is Presently active on the Independent Circuit
"The plan was actually to put the North American Championship on me months prior [to the scheduled title match against Dominik Mysterio]," Ali said. "But WWE is so smart with advertising and contract negotiation. So NXT, the network deal was coming up. Shawn [Michaels] in NXT is awesome. He explains to me, he's like, 'Hey, we're gonna put the North American Championship on you.'
Mustafa Ali never won any championships in WWE
"What happens is the network deal is coming up, and this is when Judgment Day, specifically Dom, is just white hot. I mean, they're still white hot right now, but Dom was next level right there. So they were like, 'Hey, everyone in Judgment Day has a championship. We want to put a championship on Dom, and we want to spike the ratings for NXT.'"
