Microsoft 365: Microsoft is going to update its Microsoft 365 subscription service by removing its two key features. These changes will affect both Skype’s free call minutes and Microsoft Publisher. To know what the changes are and when these changes are going to take effect, read below.
Changes to Skype call Minutes
Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer receive 60 free Skype call minutes per month for mobile phones and landlines from March 3, 2026. This benefit was available to both free and paid Skype users and allowed customers to make voice calls without any extra charges. Before this, Microsoft announced that Skype would retire for free and paid users in May 2025.
Meanwhile, Skype for Business users are not affected by this change. At the start of May 2025, Microsoft 365 personal and family subscribers can access the Skype dial paid through the Skype web portal or within Teams. This service can be continued through the Microsoft 365 subscription or by using Skype credits.
However, to help users manage their data, Microsoft said that Skype call and chat history will remain accessible until January 26, 2026. During this deadline, users can export or delete their Skype data; if not, then Microsoft will permanently delete the data.
Changes to Microsoft Publisher
Microsoft Publisher is a program that has been a part of Microsoft 365 for over 30 years. It will no longer be supported after October 1, 2026. Microsoft advises users to move toward other Microsoft 365 applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Designer, which offer similar document and design features. After October 1, 2026, it will no longer be possible to open or edit Publisher files using the Microsoft 365 services.
