Mick Foley did not have a very long career in WWE but even in a short time period, he earned a lot of same and success in the promotion. He was a three times WWE World Champion and also quite over during his run in the famous Attitude Era of the promotion. It is quite safe to say that he was one of the biggest attractions of the Attitude Era of WWE.

But before getting his main event push, he created history during the Royal Rumble match of 1998 when he entered the match three times in three different characters. In the world of professional wrestling, Foley is famous in three different gimmicks excluding his own self which is Mick Foley. The three different characters that Foley played during his wrestling career were Dude Love, Cactus Jack, and Mankind.

In the men's Royal Rumble match of 1998, Foley entered using three of his characters once at a time. Effort entered the Rumble match as Cactus Jack as the entry number 1. But he got eliminated in only 9 minutes. Once again he entered the match as Mankind in the entry number 16. But this time he could last only two minutes. Next, he entered as Dude Love as the number 28 and survived until the final 4.

This incident still remains one of the biggest records in Royal Rumble history as no wrestler in the history of this competition has ever entered three times. Foley recently remembered this historic incident from 1998 and revealed who he thought was responsible for this booking. Speaking with "For the Love of Wrestling convention," Foley revealed;

"It wasn't my idea because I don't think I'd be bold as to suggest that I'd be in three different times. I know this is going to get another boo, but I believe it was a Vince idea but not Vince McMahon; I think it was a Vince Russo idea, honestly," said the WWE Hall of Famer. "He [Russo] had some really good ideas over the years."

Foley did not have a very good record in the Royal Rumble match despite he was a top star during his time in the promotion. Entering three time in the Rumble and could not get to survive for even 20 minutes together was not a very good look for him. During that time, he was nothing but mid card but after his history performance in the King of the Ring 1998, he became a main event star.
