Ligue 1 is third with £170 million and La Liga is in 8th position with £22 million, lower than MLS and Championship!
In England, Manchester City is the topper with £180 million and almost equal to the rest of the 19 PL teams! Despite the high spending, the 2023 winter transfer window is still the topper, with a record of £815m spending. The £50 million signing of Nico Gonzalez from Porto on the deadline day made the mark for Pep Guardiola’s team and became the second-highest winter spending team behind Chelsea, who spent £275m in the 2023 winter.
Big Spending came from Manchester City to rescue their season
The City boss did not hesitate to turn his pot in the winter transfer window, reinforcing the team as per the demand Pep that can save their season. The dreadful run of 12 winless games threatened the title race for City and made the scout team hyperactive for the winter transfer window.
Despite the 115 charges of breaking a financial rule, the City is spending like there is no tomorrow to regain the glory. The biggest and first move from the England side was for Omar Marmoush for £59m to bring him from Germany to bolster his attack option.
Manchester City are still in positive side of net spending, thanks to their financial management
Just after increasing forward depth, City signed Abdukodir Khusanov for £33.6m from Lens and Vitor Reis for £29.6m from Palmeiras for defensive solidarity. Nico Gonzalez’s £50m signing was finishing winter singing for City, leaving no position to reinforce Pep in this transfer window.
Despite the £180 million spending, City’s net spend for the 2024-25 season still stands at £67 million. The departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £64.4m and the move of Joao Cancelo to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal for £21.2m helped City to balance the business. So there is no place for financial foul play at least this time from the English club.
