At the end of 2024, WWE created history by introducing a mid card division for the women for the first time in the history of the promotion. There had been a constant demand from the fans for a mid card division for women in WWE but Vince McMahon never cared to introduce something as such.

Finally, it was Triple H who decided to strength up the women's division with not one but two mid card championships for women; one for RAW and the other one for SmackDown. The blue brand got it first in the form of the WWE Women's United States Championship. They organised a 12 woman tournament to crown the first champion.

Chelsea Green emerged as the first ever WWE Women's United States champion. While the tournament in SmackDown was going on, Monday Night RAW introduced their own mid card title for the women. It was the Women's Intercontinental Championship and the red brand also organized a 12 woman tournament to crown the inaugural champion.

Last Monday on RAW, the final of the tournament took place where the Irish professional wrestler Lyra Valkyria defeated Dakota Kai to become the WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion. She is being portrayed as the inaugural WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion but she is not the first female wrestler to win the Intercontinental title in WWE.

It was way back in 1999, the event was No Mercy when "The 9th Wonder of The World" Chyna created history when she defeated to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and become the first ever female WWE Intercontinental Champion. Chyna you will not remembered much by WWE for various reasons but she was a huge deal back then who regularly wrestled men.

Valkyria may be the first "Women's" Intercontinental Champion of WWE but definitely not the first female Intercontinental Champion of the promotion. Chyna should have at least been given a tribute while introducing the Women's Intercontinental Championship but once again WWE decided to keep her name hidden. We hope one day she gets the recognition from WWE that she rightfully deserves.
