Kurt Angle had been one of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling during his time and he was also a huge draw. But he never received a good farewell as his retirement in WWE. He had his last match at WrestleMania 35 in a losing effort to Baron Corbin. It was just not another defeat; Angle was humiliated in this match.

It was still remembered as one of the worst booking decisions of Vince McMahon’s whole career. A wrestler of Angle’s career never deserved such an awful farewell. It is equally important to know that McMahon in most cases never treated retiring superstars in a very good way. There are more examples like this.

Kurt Angle returned to WWE in 2017

Angle’s first run in WWE was excellent. He also had an amazing career in TNA Wrestling following his amazing WWE run. He returned to WWE in 2017 to get inducted into the Hall of Fame. But after Hall of Fame, everything only went downhill from here. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet recently, Angle said;

“You know what? I wish I would have finished my career in WWE 10 years shorter, in WWE or TNA. So in other words, instead of 20 years, I think 10 would have been enough and I think I would have been okay. But I pushed myself further, got into my 40s and kept working at a high pace.”

“The only reason why I retired is because I was losing a step, and I could see it when I watched me on film. I didn’t like what I saw. I didn’t want the fans remembering me as a broken down Kurt Angle. Instead, I wanted them to remember me when I was in my prime, and that occurred when I went back to the WWE for the second time.”

“That was in 2017 when I came back, they wanted to induct me in Hall of Fame and I was like Vince, I’m not done wrestling. He’s like we’ll get to the wrestling and then he said that that night after the Hall of Fame I want you to be a General Manager of Raw. I was like, Vince, I want to wrestle. He said it’s coming. So he made me General Manager of Raw for nine months and during those nine months I was inactive.”

McMahon received a lot of hate for booking Angle in such a terrible way, and that was also against Baron Corbin, who ultimately became a jobber. Some fans believe that McMahon decided to do this to Kurt Angle just to take revenge on him for leaving WWE in 2006 to join TNA Wrestling. But this is just a theory, McMahon has booked worse scenarios than Kurt Angle’s farewell match.
