John Cena was arguably the biggest name of WWE during the late Ruthless Aggression Era and a large period of The PG Era of the promotion. He is considered one of the faces of WWE. But almost every face of WWE had to face criticisms for mostly being overpushed.
Hulk Hogan who was the face of WWE during the Golden Era of the promotion was massively overpushed and the criticism always remained on his back. In modern day wrestling, Roman Reigns also had to face such criticism and there is no doubt that ‘The Big Dog’ was quite overpushed. Even when the fans were not ready to accept him, Vince McMahon did not move from his standpoint.
John Cena Finally Gives His Views on The Viral “Cena Wins, LOL” Memes
John Cena was no different. He is still considered one of the most overpushed wrestlers in WWE history. At a time, a meme went viral by the name ‘Cena Wins, LOL’ and became quite popular. Speaking with Collider recently, Cena recently reacted to a viral meme. Here is what he had to say;
John Cena has been the face of WWE for a long time
“There were times when I won a lot, and there were times when I lost a lot. I don’t necessarily think that is as impactful as it may seem. Whatever is best for the business and for the fans is exactly what I’ll do…” said the former 16 time WWE World Champion.
John Cena is a 16 times WWE World Champion
Some of the ones that come to mind are certainly The Rock in Miami (at WrestleMania 28) was a fantastic loss; Kevin Owens’ debut (at Elimination Chamber 2015) was another great one that I thought was a really fun one; Rob Van Dam at Hammerstein Ballroom (at ECW One Night Stand in 2006). Anytime you can surprise people.”
Check out why Cena has a problem with the phrase 'finishing the story' here
Cena may have lost some matches but at the time, a large number of fans were bored with back to back victories of Cena. The burial, Brock Lesnar returning to WWE after eight years and losing, needless rematch between Cena and The Rock, and there are many more examples where Cena won even when he did not need it. But no one can deny Cena’s contributions either.
