WWE Hall of Famer JBL aka John Bradshaw Layfield had been one of the top stars of WWE during his time he was also a former WWE World Champion. Recently he remembered former WWE Intercontinental Champion Marc Mero who worked during and before the Attitude Era of WWE.
JBL believed despite being extremely talented, Mero did not get the right treatment from WWE. He was active in the promotion for 3 years and WWE he was one of the top mid cadrs of WCW, as he had been a three times WCW World Television champion in his 5 year WCW career.
JBL Believes WWE Should Have Pushed This Former Star
Much like a lot of WCW stars, Mero also jump to WWE in search of more success. WWE had big plans for him initially and he even won the WWE IC Championship one time. But ultimately things did not workeout for him in the promotion. WWE Hall of Famer JBL explained the how WWE failed to utilize Marc Mero while speaking with "Something To Wrestle" Podcast recently. He said;
JBL was Previously Known as Bradshaw in WWE
"I mean, here's a guy with a legit resume. It's hard to win the Golden Gloves Tournament," Bradshaw complimented. "He was training with Ray Rinaldi, a great pro boxing trainer. He was going to be a pro boxer, and something ended up happening with a facial injury, a nose injury, or something that derailed his boxing career."
JBL Believes Marc Mero Needed a Big Push in WWE
"And then he gets down to WCW, and I believe it was Dusty [who] figured out what he did well. He did that 'Johnny B. Badd' really well. He was really over," Bradshaw recalled. "Marc was, I believe the first guaranteed contract that they gave away to somebody. They really thought he could be the guy. The problem was without Dusty there. The gimmick didn't work as well. I think the Brawl for All hurt him, too. To me, I think they really missed the boat with him."
One of the biggest reasons behind the failure of Marc Mero was the unexpected success of his then wife Sable who was supposed to be his manager during his WWE run. Sable was the one of the top female stars of the Attitude Era of WWE and he was also a former WWE Women's champion. Sable and Mero got separated in 2004 and in 2006, Sable got married to Brock Lesnar.
