Former WWE Women's Champion Layla El recently teased a potential return to WWE. She was one of the most valuable names during the early PG Era days of WWE and her work during the WWE Divas Championship era was very important. She remained active in WWE for over nine years.
Layla is also recognized as the final WWE Women's Champion (1956-2010) and she is also a former WWE Divas champion. Her Tag Team partnership with Michelle McCool remained one of the best women's Tag Team partnership of her time. Recently the former champion appeared on the “No Name Wrestling” podcast where she talked about a potential return to WWE;
Breaking: Former Champion Set to Return To WWE?
“If I’m going to come back as a face, I don’t want to win the title like that, I would rather have a story and chase it. When I look back, I should have never agreed to that. It felt great because I was the — I think I’m the first Divas Search winner to win both titles because I won the Women’s Champion and then I won the Divas Championship. So, it felt amazing, and to be honored anyway to get that.”
Layla El is a Former Champion
“If the Divas would have been given the opportunity and we were able to just go and prove what we could do, you know?” She noted and added that she’s happy for how things have changed for women in the modern area. Part of me is like yeah, I wish we would’ve had that, and that’s just the acceptance that, that wasn’t our era.”
Former Champion Layla El Retired from Wrestling in 2015
“I totally understand why, you know, nobody really remembers me or appreciates the work that I’ve done, and that’s okay, but in time, now that I’m back around and back on social media, who knows what’s possible in the future?” concluded the retired professional wrestler.
A lot of former WWE Divas have made their return in WWE during the women's Royal Rumble matches. We may not expect her to make her return in the ring on a regular basis but we can definitely expect her to return for one night only. With WWE Royal Rumble PLE is edging nearer, we can hope to see her featuring in the women's Royal Rumble match as a surprise entrant.
