During the year 2021, WWE went through a huge release spree to adjust its budget. During the mentioned time, WWE suffered massive losses due to the covid-19 pandemic outbreak. To minimize the losses, the promotion was forced to release a number of wrestlers. They even had to let go of some of their future prospects.
One of the prospects that the promotion released was Aleister Black. He had been a huge star in the NXT and most of the fans expected him to become a top star after joining the main roster. He even won the NXT Championship one time. Upon joining the main roster, he was receiving a strong mid card push, and it was pretty much guaranteed that Black would be treated at least as a mid card in the main roster.

But in 2021 he got released from WWE. Just two weeks before his release, he got involved in a storyline with Big E. The fans were waiting to see the next part of the story and suddenly he got released from the promotion. Instantly after getting released by WWE, he was hired by AEW where he spent four long years.
Aleister Black is a former NXT Champion
Recently it had been reported that his AEW contract is coming to an end, and he may return to WWE soon. Former NXT Champion Adam Cole who is presently employed in AEW recently talked about Black's departure from AEW. Speaking on the “In The Kliq” podcast of Kevin Nash, Cole expresses his feelings on Black's AEW departure. Here is what the formal WWE star had to say;

“I do have a history of working with Malakai. Just an unbelievable opponent, an unbelievable guy to step in there with, and we’ve shared a lot of really cool moments together. So for me, all it was, was this personal moment between two guys who have a lot of love and respect for each other. I don’t know anything about or didn’t know anything about what his plans were and things like that. For me, it was just a cool moment with a friend after getting to work together after a long time.”
Aleister Black was one of the favourite of Triple H during his NXT days and it can be expected that he would be treated as a top star upon returning to WWE. Nothing has been reported regarding his potential return to WWE but most of the fans are expecting a sensational return soon. There are even rumors that he would return before WrestleMania 41.
